Because smokers, alcoholics, and drug addicts always come from the smallest unit of the society- the family, the city government’s program “Pamilya ko, Mahal ko, Say No to Sigarilyo” is one of the greatest programs they ever carried out maybe because of its concerned subject

“An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure:” the saying that goes with the ordinance of City of Balanga. This ordinance is also known as “Huwag maging S.A.D, para laging healthy and happy.” S.A.D. stands for smoker, alcoholic and drug addict. This regulation, aims to make people become aware of their health and to put every family in a safe environment. It also tends to create harmonious relationship among members of the community and to keep the city’s surroundings crime free.

Symposium on SAD in all schools in the city where they also conducted contests in writing a letter of request ( to stop the adult members in the family from cigarette smoking, alcohol drinking, or using drugs or sending them thank you letters for not doing those), to the school children’s parents or other adult members of the family. This contest was a way to let these users know that they play the biggest part in fortification or restoration of their families, that is making every member healthy and free from sickness acquired from smoking, alcohol drinking and drug addiction.

The implementation of “Huwag maging SAD” opens doors for people who want change in their lives. Discipline among them begins and so continues and transfers to their children. Adults gained respect and it is established among members of the family.

Being free from SAD, the community is also free from crimes. Being safe is very crucial at this time that even children are prone to misdeeds or temptations on luxury things. The city’s campaign, “Wag maging SAD” avoids users to commit any wrong doings when under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Through this, crime reports become lesser than before it is implemented in the city.

If all Balangueños would follow this rule, love and happiness will live among families. “Health is wealth” as we always believe and it is true with this law.
