Mother Tongue Based Medium of Instruction by: Ligaya V. Bustamante, Tenejero E/S

            We are embarking a great development in education.  The K to 12 is an enormous project of Dep Ed.  This has met a lot of queries and negative and mixed emotions due to the problem it will impose.  Imagine the funding for teachers’ salary, appropriate textbooks, furniture, classrooms and instructional materials.  How can we move on to raise the performance level of pupils in terms of academic achievement when we are beset with lots of unpreparedness.  The general program is good but how can we sustain its progress?  There should be support by the stakeholders.  How ready are the teachers, parents and community?  Much training is needed by the teachers.  There is also a need to sustain the fund requirement for each stage.  Together with K to 12 Curriculum, we have the mother tongue based as the medium of instruction from kinder to grade I.  There are learning modules to fix the gap but how about the other curriculum materials?

 

            Joining our hands and invest our cooperative efforts will manifest success in the first stage.  What more can we do when things are to be experienced to see the reality.  If there will be stumbling blocks, we teachers would know how we could help to lessen the heavy load of the program.  We shall be there to realize that somewhere we can ensure success.
